The African American Pavilion at BEA is the marketplace for thousands of African American publishing industry professionals. Influential book buyers and exhibitors form a community of unprecedented strength.

BookExpo America, one of the largest book trade exhibits in the world, provides independent African American book publishers, self publishers, authors, Black Interest Imprints at major publishing houses, distributors, literary agents, publicists, librarians and bookstore owners exposure to more than eighty thousand book buyers and booksellers from across the globe.

On opening day, Friday, May 30th at 9:00am, The African American Pavilion and BookExpo America will present a fifth-anniversary, star-studded gala celebration, beginning with a ribbon cutting, celebrity speakers, and an unveiling of new artwork by Synthia Saint James that will be showcased throughout the pavilion.

This year The 2008 African American Pavilion at BookExpo America Glenn Thompson "Lifetime Achievement " Award is being presented to two of America's greatest literary and media giants:

Lerone Bennett Jr., Author of the great and eternal National Best-Selling Book, Before The Mayflower: A History of Black America. His numerous titles include: What Manner of Man: A Biography of Martin Luther King, Jr., The Shaping of Black America, and Pioneers In Protest, Black Power U.S.A..
